May

May arrived at the shelter in April of 2016. She came in as a stray, and we were quite surprised when she was never claimed. She was calm, used to people, well taken care of, and very fat!

May was a difficult cat to adopt, not because she was aggressive or mean, just the opposite! She was one of the sweetest cats we've ever had at the shelter. The problem was a mix of her old age, medical reasons, and her inability to really socialize with people. She was about 10 years old, and had a cataract in her left eye. This wasn't anything serious, it just made her vision in that eye cloudy, but this still turned off potential adopters. Everyone that saw her thought "Why get an old cat with medical problems when I could get this little baby kitten instead?" And that's what we always seemed to hear. Everyone seemed to just want a kitten, and didn't look at May for her personality.

May got used to her new surroundings very quickly, she had even gotten to the point where we could leave her kennel door wide open while cleaning, and she wouldn't even want to jump out. She trusted us enough that she felt safe inside her kennel. Although she didn't mind sitting on anyone's lap or being held, she still wasn't what you would call a "Sociable" cat. She was content in doing her own thing, and whenever someone actually would visit her, they never felt like she would connect with them.

May was at the shelter for 10 months, and it seemed like the right person would never come along. But in February of 2017, she found her miracle! The Cherry School (A small town near Hibbing) Student Council was having a fundraiser to raise money for "Make A Wish," and there were 2 cats selected as one of the prizes. There were 2 because we offered either a male or female, just in case the winner had a preference. The male cat was named Sam, and the other was May. The winner came in and instantly fell in love with May. She didn't mind that she wasn't too social, or had a cataract, she thought she was perfect just the way she was! May went home the next day, and her new family loves her. They were a perfect match!
